Your Pet Wants to go to Blessing of the Animals

Dear Friends,

Woof, woof! Woof! Woooooof! Raarrrgh! Woof. Wo-Woof!

One of your dogs wanted me to send that along. Here, I can translate real quick.

“I would very much like to attend the Blessing of the Animals service, which is at St. Andrew’s on Sunday! Also, I like treats! Pleaaaase! And bacon. Did you know I hate that cat? Again, don’t forget Blessing of the Animals. Thank you in advance for taking me. It’s at 5:30 pm. I’ll wait to poop until I get there. Bring bags.”

That pretty much sums it up. Come to think of it, I also like treats and bacon, and the Blessing of the Animals is a great service. And it is at 5:30 pm.

Cats are absolutely welcome too though, to be clear. I got a message from them too, but it lacked the same degree of enthusiasm and drool.

Also, fish and rabbits and lizards and whatever else you got, bring it.

We do this each you in honor of St. Francis Day (his feast day is actually October 4). St. Francis loved animals deeply because he loved God deeply, and that love poured out of him towards all the things that God made. His life showed the way that love brings all of creation into God’s harmony and peace. The way many of us experience that truth most deeply is with our pets. I hope you can bring yours to the Garden Chapel on the front lawn at 5:30 pm, Sunday.

In Christ,

Fr. Andrew
