The Fundamentals of Our Faith
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Sports were a big part of Liz's and my lives growing up. So, when Mikey signed up for tee ball this season, we were both excited for him to experience what it means to be a part of a team. It has been fun watching the players learn how to catch, bat, and run bases. I knew that there would be a learning curve to figuring out how to play a new game, but a part of me had forgotten how much work you must put in to acquire the skill it takes to contribute to the team. It takes practice. I will say that I have been remiss in my part of getting out in the backyard and working with Mikey on simply moving his glove to catch the ball, working on running in the right direction after hitting the ball, or talking about the importance of paying attention while you are in the field. For Mikey, I must do better!
It’s much the same with our faith, isn’t it? When we are young in our faith, we know very little about what it means to be a faithful disciple of Jesus. We must learn to walk, talk, and live as a member of the body of Christ. There are fundamental steps as we begin a lifetime of following Jesus. These fundamental steps can be learned through mentoring, participating in a baptismal or confirmation class, and participating consistently in the work that God has given his church.
So, I invite you to look around at what is going on in the life of St. Andrew’s. If you have a young child that has yet to be baptized, sign up for our Stepping Into Faith course. If you are a seasoned Christian, consider teaching. If you are yearning to know more about our faith, join Father Andrew’s class called, “Tent Pegs”. When we all practice the fundamentals of our faith, we make a pretty good team. That is, with God’s help!
Peace and Grace,
Deacon Logan
