Independence Day Picnic & Fireworks Saturday Evening

Dear Friends,

BBQ (pork and brisket), water slides, and fireworks on Saturday; prayers, confession and Holy Communion on Sunday. This is quite the weekend! I really want to encourage you to do both sets of things this week.

Eating BBQ as the sun sets, the kids running barefoot around the front lawn, and fireworks at night – all that is as American as apple pie. It is an amazing grace that we live in this country, and so I'm certainly grateful for the accident of proximity to McKinney's Red, White and Boom festival that makes it possible for us to celebrate that grace on the front lawn of our church.

And yet we know too that our identity is not completed by our national spirit. Indeed the only identity that can ultimately fulfill us is that we find in our Lord Jesus Christ as a son or daughter of God. It's no accident that Paul writes "our citizenship is in heaven."

So join us on Sunday too, as we pray to and worship (thanks to the freedoms we enjoy as Americans) a God who frees us from sin and death to eternal life.

In Christ,

Fr. Andrew
