God has Something for Each of Us
Dear Friends,
Happy December! Though we began Advent a few days ago on Sunday, today is the day our Devoji: An Advent Devotional for a Digital Age starts. And if you have a LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar, or a chocolate advent calendar, or really any type of Advent calendar, today is probably the first day you got to open the little door and find your surprise.
The promise of an Advent devotional or an Advent calendar is that everyday there is something for us. Maybe that something is a chocolate. Maybe it is a reflection. Personally, I like having both. But in either case there is an intentional act of waiting *and receiving*. The receiving part is important, because it prepares us, by practice, to be ready to receive God’s gift at Christmas, not just do something. And a devotional helps our hearts and minds give shape to that expectation and that gift from God.
God has something for each of us this Christmas. Not just presents and carols and lights, but something of God. Something of his love, grace, healing and hope. Let us prepare ourselves this season to receive God’s gift.
In Christ,
Fr. Andrew
