Devoji
AN ADVENT DEVOTIONAL FOR THE DIGITAL AGE
Devoji is a 24-day Advent devotional written by members, staff, and clergy of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
It’s available as
an almost free Kindle ebook,
an inexpensive paperback book.
From the Introduction:
As our culture has grown increasingly dependent on text messages and other forms of short, written communication, we have rediscovered the value of writing with pictures. Whether limited by the size of the text field or the dexterity of our thumbs, pictures allow us to say more than we could otherwise (a thousand words more, as the saying goes). What started as sideways faces made out of punctuation— :) —has become a massive list of 3664 emoji that allow us to express our feelings, hopes and thoughts with fun, creativity and succinctness (and often quite a lot of ambiguity).
This compilation of devoji (our too-clever-by-half portmanteau of devotional and emoji) is meant to capture the whimsical joy of emoji and encourage you to take the traditional themes of this Advent season and reimagine them. When we reimagine something we re-image it; we give ourselves a new picture of the thing. In this case, the new pictures are emoji.
Emoji have wired all our 🧠 to think and speak in 🖼️. Our prayer is that this season they can also inspire our ❤️ to draw near to God as we 🙏.
