How Baptism Changes Everything
Preacher: The Rev. Andrew Van Kirk
Scripture: Luke 3:15-17, 21-22
The baptism of Jesus is a profound moment in the story of salvation—a pivot point where the world moves from the monochrome of the Old Testament to the Technicolor of the New Testament. As Jesus emerges from the waters of the Jordan, the voice of the Father declares, “You are my Son,” inaugurating his ministry and affirming his identity.
In the same way, our baptism is a defining moment in our lives. It is the declaration that we, too, are beloved children of God. Through baptism, we are reborn into a new identity, inheritors of God’s promises and participants in his kingdom. From that moment on, everything we do and every relationship we have flows from the truth that we are deeply loved by our Father.
Living out this identity means allowing God’s character to shape us. Just as earthly parents influence our behavior, our heavenly Father calls us to reflect his love, faithfulness, and forgiveness in our daily lives. Baptism is not just a ceremony—it’s the beginning of a lifelong journey, walking in the light of God’s love and sharing it with the world.
This week, let us remember our identity as God’s beloved children and live boldly in the light of that truth.
