A Transforming Light in the Darkness
Preacher: The Rev. Logan Hurst
Scripture: John 1:1-18
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.” - John 1:5
As we continue in this season of Christmas, let us pause and reflect on the extraordinary truth of Christ’s coming. Jesus, the Light of the world, shines into the darkness—not just in the world around us, but in the deepest corners of our hearts. This light isn’t dimmed by despair, fear, or spiritual blindness. Instead, it transforms, overcomes, and invites us into a new way of living.
The story of the Delgado family beautifully illustrates this. Despite facing profound poverty, they radiated joy and generosity because of their faith in Christ. Their trust in Jesus transformed their hearts and their perspective, allowing them to give from what little they had. Their light touched the life of journalist Lee Strobel, leading him to a faith he never expected.
This is the transforming power of Jesus. He not only offers us salvation but calls us to become children of God—new creations who reflect his light into the darkness around us. In this, we are invited to see the world through his eyes, eyes filled with love and compassion.
Today, let the light of Christ lead you to pause, breathe, and be transformed. What barriers in your life keep you from fully embracing his light? How can you, like the Delgado family, share the hope and joy of Christ with those around you?
May the light of Christ fill your heart, transform your vision, and inspire you to shine his love brightly in the world. This week, let us each commit to one act of compassion that reflects his light, knowing that even the smallest light can banish the darkness.
Merry Christmas, my friends. May the light of Christ shine brightly through you.
