The 4th of July
Dear Friends,
As we head into the 4th of July holiday, St. Andrew’s is busy with preparation.
Sunday at worship we’ll be including national sacred music among our musical selections and praying for our country. Even the sermon is oriented towards God’s graceful control in difficult political times.
Monday, July 3rd, is our great Independence Day picnic and fireworks watching party, beginning at 6:00 pm and ending when the fireworks are over (around 10:00 pm). The church will provide hot dogs, burgers, buns, condiments, and paper goods. Everyone is invited to bring burger/hot dog fixings or a side dish to share. And don’t forget drinks for you and your family to enjoy. Other good things to bring: lawn chairs, sunscreen, flashlights, and towels for the kids. Kids should wear bathing suits to take advantage of the huge, two-story blow up waterslide. We’ll also have a bounce house for our younger kids and lots of lawn games. Neighbors and friends are welcome!
We need volunteers to help with setup, clean up, food prep and (especially) water slide supervision. Please sign up here.
On Tuesday morning, St. Andrew’s has a float in the McKinney downtown parade, which begins at 10:00 am. Our theme is hope, and we have 500 balloons printed with our logo and several different Bible verses about the hope we have in Christ. Be sure to say hi and cheer us on along the parade route, or better yet, join us (kids are welcome, email Lisa Ostrowski if you’re interested). Groups are also meeting up at St. Andrews at 10:00 am on Saturday and 4:00 pm on Monday to help decorate our float — we could use your help. This is a great way to help get our name out and increase our visibility in the community.
If you’re out-of-town, safe travels and lots of fun! If you’re here, come be a part of these wonderful community building events as we give thanks for the wonderful country in which we are blessed live.
In Christ,
Fr. Andrew
PS: The fireworks location has moved this year to Gabe Nesbitt Park. We’ve spent a lot of time in our lawn with a map and a compass and we believe this will actually make the fireworks closer to us and easier to view! I suppose we’ll know for certain about 9:45 pm on Monday…
