Progress update on C.L.I.M.B.

Hi Friends,

I would like to share with you the progress we are making with the C.L.I.M.B. after-school program at the Merritt McGowen apartments:

  • We are under the umbrella of One Heart McKinney and have 4 other church partners. This is a non-denominational, faith-based afterschool program that will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 5:30 pm onsite at Merritt.

  • On February 11 and May 11, we held special events with arts and crafts, sports, and snacks. Both events were heavily attended by the children of Merritt. This gave us the opportunity to start building relationships.

  • First McKinney Baptist Church held three summer events: a weeklong VBS and two afternoon sessions of fun with pizza and a water slide.

  • Planning for the program itself has been ongoing all summer long with Jane Lilliston and her team of volunteers working on the Thursday curriculum. After launch, on Tuesdays we will have a faith-based curriculum lead by Kim Simpson, our director of the program. Thursdays will be more academic and will be led by Jane and her team of volunteers.

As you can see, a lot of the work has already begun, but what do we still need? YOU! Consistent volunteers to help mentor, educate, and, most of all, have fun with these children is crucial to our success.

If you would like to learn more, Jane and I are available to talk. Please reach out to me to set a time that works for you!

I hope everyone is having a fun and relaxing summer!

Peace,
Lisa
