Join us for Special Advent Events
Advent has arrived, and before we know what has happened, we will be celebrating Christmas. This time of year always goes by in a blur. This seemed especially true for the four years that I was in seminary. Advent was going on in the outside world, but my focus was on the many assignments that had to be turned in before the end of the semester. Often this meant days of typing and studying until nearly Christmas Eve. I would then try to spend a precious few days with my family before the next course started.
This year, however, as if to make up for lost time, Advent started for me in August, when I began considering our adult formation plans for the season of Advent. This has involved many enjoyable hours spent exploring the poetry of Advent. These poems have been set to tunes ancient and modern. They include songs which look forward to Jesus’ return and ones which look back at the prophets who foretold his coming. They remind us to reflect on Mary and Elizabeth and call us to focus on preparing our hearts both for Christmas and for Jesus’ future coming.
If you haven’t done so yet, I invite you to visit our Advent Devotional each day this December for an opportunity to listen to an Advent carol and to read a reflection by one of our St. Andrew’s writers.
We have a number of special events at St Andrew’s to mark this season, and I hope that you will be able to join us for some of these. Coming up on Friday is our Advent Fellowship Night, and for a completely different Advent experience, I hope that you will join us at our Advent Evening of Quiet on Monday.
In Christ,
Deacon Erica
