Hands&Feet at Shiloh Place

Dear Friends,

The hustle and bustle of fall schedules are in full swing! I hope everyone has adjusted and is staying healthy.

Our Hands and Feet ministry has begun to ramp up; we had the opportunity to serve dinner for the Mom's and children of Shiloh Place on Tuesday evening. It is truly rewarding to see the enthusiasm and appreciation from both the moms and children.

For those of you that might not be familiar with our partner, Shiloh Place, let me share their ministry goal and some insight...

Their ministry goal is to see single mothers become the women and mothers God has called them to be. They provide basic needs (housing, childcare, utilities, etc.) case management and tuition for job training or career development. The expectation for the Moms is that they are enrolled full-time in a degree or certificate program, work part-time, attend weekly case management sessions, participate in weekly Life Skills classes (this is where we have had the pleasure of serving), and pass weekly checks of their apartment. They are taught the tools they need to be financially self-sufficient and successful once they leave.

To see these women work so hard to better their and their children's life is inspirational.

Here is a note from one of our church members, Shelly Schebil, who helped serve dinner for the first time...

This was my first experience with the organization and I have to admit I was a little nervous that the meal would not be enough or meet their taste but they all enjoyed it. I was in awe as the coordinator explained the program to me; how the moms have to work part time, go to school full time, attend life skills classes, be accountable for their residences and all the while raising children. Their hard work and humility were moving if not inspirational. As a new resident to McKinney, I am blessed to have found a strong Christian home at St. Andrew's and thankful for this opportunity to give back to our local community in their time of need.

Thank you to Shelly and to all of you at St Andrews who make volunteer opportunities like this possible.

More to come - Shiloh Place is getting another apartment ready for a deserving mom and St. Andrew's will be helping with furnishings. Please keep an eye out for those details in the near future.

Please see what else is happening below with our Hands and Feet ministry. We would love to have you serve with us!!

Peace,

Lisa
