3rd Annual Shrimp Boil and Hot Dog Roast
Dear Friends,
Shrimp never make it into the Bible. The closest they come is the mention of "swimming things that don't have fins and scales" which are proclaimed "detestable to you" in the book of Leviticus. Shellfish aren't kosher.
Of course, their kosher status is not our concern as Christians, but it does mean that when I write a note in the weekly email to invite you to our Shrimp Boil and Hot Dog Roast, I can't reference that Bible story about the awesome shrimp boil that the tribe of Benjamin had in Judges. I can't even tell you that Jesus would have come to the Shrimp Boil -- as a Jew, he would have skipped it.
Peter and Paul though – they would have been there (see Acts 10; Romans 14:14). So ask yourself, WWPPD ("What Would Peter and Paul Do?" -- and join us Saturday evening for the 3rd Annual Shrimp Boil & Hot Dog Roast. We'll have delicious food, outdoor games, music, and even college football on TV. It'll be a fun evening, and as the food has been donated, all the proceeds will go to help offset the expenses of the Men's and Women's Retreats coming up this year.
Also, if you tend to agree with the Book of Leviticus, if you think shrimp really are "detestable" – well there are also hot dogs, sausages, corn, potatoes and more at this event. Nobody will go hungry!
Hope to see you there.
Fr. Andrew
