The Temptation is Real
Preacher: The Rev. Logan Hurst
Scripture: Luke 4:1-13
The story of Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness is not just an instruction manual on how to resist the devil—it is a declaration of what Christ has already done for us. Where Adam and Eve fell to temptation in the garden, Jesus stood firm in the desert. He faced the lure of power, security, and control, yet refused to abandon trust in the Father.
Too often, we assume we are strong enough to resist temptation on our own. But as the sermon reminds us, we are dust—and dust is no match for the enemy. Left to ourselves, we are vulnerable. But Christ has already fought the battle on our behalf. When we face moments of weakness, we do not stand alone. We turn to Jesus, who has already overcome.
Lent invites us into a season of preparation, a time to recognize our dependence on God. When our Lenten commitments become difficult, when we are tempted to compromise or give up, we remember: Jesus has already been victorious. We do not resist in our own strength, but in his.
This season, let us turn to the one who refused temptation for us. In him, we find the strength to persevere, the grace to stand, and the hope of resurrection.
