The Freedom of Trusting God
Preacher: The Rev. Andrew Van Kirk
Scripture: Luke 9:28-36
At the heart of our faith is a profound truth: God did not leave us to figure out holiness on our own. He came to us in Jesus Christ—not as an unreachable deity but as one of us, revealing his love in a way we could see, touch, and follow.
Moses’ face shone after encountering God, but the light faded. His relationship with God—like the covenant of the law—required continual renewal. But in Jesus, we see something different. His glory is not temporary. He does not simply reflect God’s light; he is the light.
Too often, we make ourselves the center of our worship. We place infinite hope in our finite selves, expecting fulfillment from money, success, or self-improvement. But these things cannot satisfy. When we worship ourselves, we are left exhausted and empty.
Jesus frees us from this burden. He calls us into a relationship based not on our efforts, but on his love. In him, we no longer have to prove our worth or chase after fleeting idols. We are invited to live in his light, not as something that fades, but as something that transforms us forever.
