It’s Good for Us to Be Here

St. Andrew’s Family,

This week’s Gospel reading is one of my favorites! This Sunday, the Last Sunday after the Epiphany, we are reading the story of Jesus’ transfiguration. I’m not going to regale you of the whole story (you have to come to church on Sunday). However, while Peter, James, and John were on the mountain with Jesus, Peter recognized that they were witnessing something great. So great, in fact, he says, “Master, it is good for us to be here...” Peter was totally right. It was indeed good for them to be there!

I love this being a part of our readings this week because it is “Bring a Friend Sunday.” This is a chance to invite others into our St. Andrew’s community, and they can experience that St. Andrew’s is a good place to be. This is a good place to be, of course, because of all of you and your faithful work in God’s kingdom here in this place. More importantly, St. Andrew’s is a good place for others to experience the transforming work of Jesus in their lives.

I have heard so many of you tell stories about the way you have experienced Jesus in this place (and I have experienced it too). These experiences of healing, mercy, grace, and forgiveness are but a taste of what the kingdom of God will be. These transformational experiences create holy ground. Therefore, we can say with confidence, like Peter, “...it is good for us to be here!”

See you all Sunday,
Father Logan
