Help Serve Our Partner School as the School Year Begins
Hi Friends,
The school year has now started (don't miss Blessing of the Backpacks this Sunday!). I can’t believe summer is over. Once you’ve had a chance to catch your breath and plan out your fall schedules, I hope you will include supporting our Hands&Feet ministry. We have several ongoing opportunities that will be highlighted during the ministry fair this Sunday, so stop by, have one of Monica’s famous scones, and see where you and your family can best help out.
One of our key partners in the community is Burks Elementary School. St. Andrew’s has been a part of the Burks family for over 10 years! There are many opportunities to help (a background check and registration with MISD is required to participate):
Become a Burks Mentor in the REACH program – you will meet with a student once a week for about 30 minutes: tutor, talk, play cards, and make a connection!
Burks Readers – help a child build a love of reading by visiting the Burks library once a week to read with a student.
Burks Backpacks 4 kids – meet at Burks on Friday mornings for 45 minutes to pass out snack bags for some of the students to take home over the weekend.
How do these programs make a difference? Here is what the lead counselor at Burks had to say recently while sharing the community’s gratitude:
“The cover of care you provide us helps Burks Elementary give families education, dignity, and a feeling of community. This benefits everyone in society, and I hope you know that when we say “thank you” for all that you have done it is heartfelt and genuine. You are a blessing!” - Ally Rodriguez
Let’s continue the good work! See you Sunday!
Peace,
Lisa
