Jesus Calls Imperfect People

In a stormy and broken world, Christ calls us—sinful and imperfect as we are—to get into the boat of his Church, to trust in him, and to go out and bring others into his saving grace.

Like Isaiah and Peter, we are painfully aware of our unworthiness. When Isaiah encountered God, he cried out, “Woe is me! I am a man of unclean lips!” When Peter witnessed Jesus’ miracle, he fell to his knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” Yet, God did not reject them. He called them. He cleansed them. He sent them.

We, too, are sent—not because we are perfect, but because we are loved. When we look at the world, the waves may feel overwhelming. But Christ has given us a boat. He has given us the Church, a place where we can rest, where we can serve, and where we can invite others to experience the mercy of God.

The work ahead is not easy. There are people drowning in pain, fear, and uncertainty. And yet, Jesus calls us to cast our nets—to reach out in love, to proclaim his good news, and to trust that he is with us in the storm.

This week, may we have the courage to step into the boat, to follow Christ, and to bring others along with us.
