Be Present

  • Preacher: Tim Jenkins

  • Scripture: Mark 6:30-34, 53-56

The people in today’s Gospel reading had one thing in common—they sought to be near Jesus. They watched where he went, ran ahead to meet him, and brought their burdens to him. They longed for his presence, trusting that just being close to him could bring healing and hope.

How often do we live with that same urgency? Life distracts us, pulls us in countless directions, and fills our minds with worries. But Jesus calls us to be present—to come to him with our joys, our struggles, our needs, and even the things we don’t know how to ask for. The good news is that Jesus sees us, even when we don’t fully recognize our own needs. Like the disciples who needed rest, or the crowds longing for guidance, Jesus meets us where we are with compassion and care.

The challenge for us is to be like those in today’s Gospel—to seek him, to follow where he leads, to bring our hearts before him. Whether we are celebrating, grieving, or simply trying to make it through the day, Jesus is present. We only need to draw near.
