Scripture Socks

Children’s Sermons

Small stories that teach big truth.

During the pandemic, we used sock puppets to teach kids about the Bible and the practice of our faith in a fun and engaging way. And let’s be honest, the adults enjoy them too – and learn something along the way.

You can find the whole playlist of Scripture Socks on YouTube, or watch individual series below!

St. Andrew’s Recess

Did you know that you can learn about God anywhere? You can also practice what you learn at church at any time! So, Andrew, Paulette, Logan, and Tim have gone back to school, and they’re going to show you exactly how it’s done.

This series begins, like all tv series, with a theme song!

George won't stay in his seat like the teacher asked everyone to, and that makes Logan really mad. Really, really mad! Logan wants to teach George a lesson. Is Logan doing something wrong?

Andrew really wants an Over Armor shirt, because he thinks the kids will make fun of him if he doesn't have one. His mom is saying no. Will Andrew get made fun of at school?

Tim and Andrew had such a great time at VBS, so why does Tim not want to tell Ivan about it? Is it a big deal?

Tim wants to be line leader. Logan wants to be line leader. Paulette wants to be line leader. Surely they will figure this out without things getting ugly, right?

Tim and Andrew are trying to get Logan to do something that isn't very nice. Surely there's nothing wrong with encouraging others to do wrong... or is there?

Logan and Paulette are arguing over how many stars there are. Does this argument even mean anything?

Paulette says her dog ate her homework. The gang doesn't remember her having a dog. What's going on here? Is Paulette doing something wrong?

Tim and Logan are arguing about which Superhero is the more powerful. Surely they can get this figured out, right?

Something seems off with Andrew. Is he okay? It is it worth sharing what's the matter?

Andrew has read about about burnt sacrifices in the Bible, and he's pretty sure he's supposed to be doing them. Has he gotten the wrong idea?

Tim has performed a miracle! Wait... really? Paulette and Andrew aren't so sure.

Tim is trying to show the gang his block tower when things go awry. Will Tim ever recover? Is all human effort meaningless?

Logan has just won himself a new nickname, but he isn't sure he likes it. Is he stuck, or can he be someone else also?

David

David is one of the most important figures of the Old Testament. Called “a man after God’s own heart,” David’s life is full of both faith and failure. How does a shepherd boy, the youngest of his family, rise to become the king of Israel, and what does his life tell us about God? Watch and find out.

This series begins with “Kings are Totes the Worst!” The people of Israel want a king, but kings are totes the worst! What does God have to say about their request?

Seems like just last week that Samuel was anointing Saul king of Israel. Now God wants him to anoint one of the sons of Jesse? Things sure do move fast when it comes to kings, it seems.

Israel is facing a mighty threat, and all are afraid to fight the Philistine foes. Is any man or boy brave enough to fight their champion?

Saul is unsure that God is still with him, and he is willing to do ANYTHING to know what to do next. Has this set Saul on a path for trouble?

Saul is gone, and all the leaders of the tribes of Israel have gathered. Are they really going to make David king? Will anyone object?

King David has recovered the Ark of the Lord! But, now he has to get it to Jerusalem. Can his moving team help him get it there?

King David has a sweet new house, but something is keeping him from enjoying it. He wants to build the Ark of the Lord a house too. Surely there's no problem with him doing that, right?

King David is just taking a stroll on his rooftop. What could go wrong? Surely nothing he sees up there will ultimately lead to a lot of trouble. Right? Right?

God has a message for David, and Nathan is once again the messenger. Is David going to like God's message?

David has gotten older, and his son, Solomon, now rules Israel. One day, David visits Solomon at the palace with an important message. What could it be?

Episcopal Problems

Why do we make the sign of the cross? What’s that box they put leftover communion in? Why do priests where big poncho looking things?

These are the questions our series “Episcopal Problems” aims to answer. Each week Tim tries to tackle some misunderstood part of worship only to learn what it’s really all about in the end.

This series begins with “Why is Lent Sooo Long?” Tim is a little bit miffed, because he thinks Father Andrew and Deacon Logan have been lying about the length of Lent. Can they work out what's going on? Also, why IS Lent so long?

Every week Tim sees Father Andrew and Deacon Logan put leftovers in the tabernacle, so why is Father Andrew so upset when Tim tries to fit his pizza in there?

For some reason, Father Andrew and Deacon Logan are confused by the new worship scoreboard Tim has installed. When he tells them it's to track holy touchdowns, things don't get any clearer. Can anyone figure out what Tim is talking about?

Is there any way to improve upon the Eucharist? Tim has an idea, but will Father Andrew and Deacon Logan go for it?

Tim wants to borrow Father Andrew's poncho for Cinco de Mayo. Father Andrew has no idea what he is talking about. Does Father Andrew have a secret stash of ponchos? Can anyone figure out what Tim is talking about? Is wearing a poncho for Cinco de Mayo even appropriate?

Tim's trying to beat his personal best at the only game the church has. Why are Father Andrew and Deacon Logan not impressed? Is he not playing the game correctly?

Tim wants to freshen up Father Andrew and Deacon Logan's dance moves during the service. They have no idea what he is talking about. Has Tim been attending the wrong church, or will they be able to get it all straightened out?

It's Trinity Sunday, and Tim has a really big question about a mystery he is having a hard time understanding. Can Father Andrew and Deacon Logan explain it all clearly?

Jonah!

Jonah has been called by God to prophecy to Nineveh, but he doesn’t want to. What’s so bad about the people of Nineveh that Jonah would try to run away from God? Is that even possible? This story is more than just a fish tale!

This series begins with “Welcome to Nineveh!” Where we try to explain who the people of Nineveh are to help set up the story of Jonah. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy, and they're proud of it too!

Jonah's trying to run away, well, sail away from God, but things don't quite work out like he hoped. Are his plans sunk?

Out of the sea and into the digestive track, Jonah is stuck in the belly of a fish. It's given him some time to think. So, what is he thinking?

Jonah has finally made it to Nineveh, but this city is really big! Does it matter where Jonah shares God's message? Will God’s message matter to the Ninevites? Only one way to find out…

The Ninevites are more repent than Jonah had hoped, but he still believes they might get destroyed. Will his terrible dream come true?
